The Marxochime Colony
This wonderful panoramic photograph, graciously copied for me by Mary & Steven & Chris, members of the Marx family, appears to show the Colony just after it was built, in 1927. The factory is on the right - not discernable in the photo is the name over the front door - "19 Marx 27". The large house in the center is the residence of H. C. Marx, and visible to the left are 5 of the 6 cottages built for employees. Facilities here were far better for expansion of the business, which was presumably rather constrained in the 227 S. Wood St. property, housing as it did both the instrument production and the residence of the Marx family.
Drop me a line.
